Planning for our big day

So I finished my pocketfolds and just wanted to show what they looked like.  I followed the directions from www.roadtotheaisle.blogspot.com and they probably took me about 9 hours to do.  Just have a good paper cutter, scorer and double sided tape!

My precut paper I got from www.cardsandpockets.com in the color merlot

the finished project

template for the pcket where the inserts will be.  I didn't cut and paste my pocket...I used the template to cut the corners of the pocket so it wouldn't have a straight line.

the scorer I got from Martha Stewart (plastic - didn't work that good) and the envelope opener my Mother got from work.  The envelope opener worked alot better, I think b/c I was metal and sharper.  Also, my paper cutter had grooves so that helped alot too

Some of my paper samples.  I might have the champagne as my insert and actual invite paper and back them with the gold leaf.

I'm totally bored right now so I'm just uploading some random wedding/engagement stuff I've recieved recently.

This is a cute bank my mother got me from the christmas tree shop.  I've been emptying my pockets every day, so we'll see how much I can actually save by next year.

This is where my ring sleeps at night :)  I actually got this randomly from Mandees.

A martini glass my best friend got me for Christmas.  Its by Lolita.

The recipe on the bottom of the glass.  Might have the drink at our engagement party.

So tonight me and my mother went to a local bridal store to try on some Jim Hjelm dresses.  After the disappointment of last week, I just wanted to try one on already!!  The store didn't have a huge selection, but I got to try a few on and see the colors.  I originally wanted to wear ivory, but my mom is insisting on white, so we'll see.  Below are three dresses that I tried on, the other one I can't find online for the life of me.  Its funny b/c the one that we loved was from Tara Keely, which is a division of Jim Hjelm (not Jim Hjelm himself).  The first dress is Jim Hjelm style # 8800 which I liked, but dosen't have "the wow factor".  The second dress is Jim Hjelm style #8851.  The straps were really pretty, but it didn't quite scream wedding to me.  The third dress is Tara Keely style # 2700.  This is the one that I thought "wow".  The picture is shown in ivory lace with antique silk on the bottom, but I would get white or white with ivory.  The dress has the pearl and swarvoski beading...love it :)  Totally didn't think I would like the drop waist...you never know until you try it on!!

Today I ordered my cardstock from cardsandpockets.com.  I really like the idea of doing my own invites (I like to do crafts and stuff) and my sister is an awesome artist.  I know I have a long time but I just want to see what I'm working with and from what I hear from some girls that have do it themselves, it can take a few months to put together.  I am going to do the pocket folders now, but not do the actual invites, belly bands and monogram until next year.  I ordered some samples last week and I am going with the metallic merlot color.  It is a shimmery deep plum color.  I ordered them precut to 16 x 7 inches just to make my life easier.  They came to 66 cents a piece which is awesome.  I plan to follow the directions from "the road to the aisle" blog.  So this weekend I'm going to tackle scoring and folding.  And once we figure out what we are doing for our engagement party, I will be doing them myself also.  Below is an example of the look I am going for.

Today I went to Kleinfeld with my mother for the "big blowout sale".  I got an email a few weeks ago about a huge sample sale and was instantly excited because they listed Jim Hjelm as one of the designers that would be on sale.  I have been dreaming of a Jim Hjelm dress for months, but know that they are out of my (or my mothers) budget.  So I was hoping for an opportunity like this.  So she takes off of work, we drag our butts into the city (in a snowstorm) and are the 4th person there.  I thought, this is great, I am going to have first dibs on the dresses!!!  Well...there was not ONE Jim Hjelm, my sales woman was a bitch and all the dresses they did have were stained or falling apart.  The saleswoman asked what designer I was looking for and I said "Jim Hjelm" and she immediatly said "oh no we don't have him".  So I showed her the print out from her website with the list of designers they SAID they had and she calls over the sales manager.  The manager then proceeds to tell me that maybe I wasn't a "sample sale bride" and should come back for a future appointment.  HELLO...I dragged my ass to the city at the crack of dawn through a snowstorm, with a list of dresses I liked and I'm not a sample sale bride?? Maybe they shouldn't have lied to get people into the store!!!  Also, when I asked her to help me look for any trumpet silouttes she said that wasn't her job....And when I told another saleswoman she rolled her eyes and said she is supposed to help.....And the one dress I did try on was missing beading and was ripped and she was trying to push it on me...They didn't care about me at all...They just wanted to make a sale.  I was so disappointed and felt bad that I dragged my mom out the city for this.  So now Plan B is to go and try on some Jim Hjelms next week and hopefully find a used one online or get one on sale.  I have ALOT of time so I think I should be ok, but today just sucked!!!!
